May I share with you a terrific new book that has just fallen into my hands?
"So You Want to Learn Coptic" by Sameh Younan.
I don't usually gush about a book, but here's why I really like this one:
1. It is beautifully written. Sam has taken a difficult subject (learning a new language) and made it both easy and fun. The book goes through the process very logically and Sam's wry sense of humour keeps you going through the hard bits. Little boxes with really simple explanations for the constantly-confused (like me) really boost your confidence as you plough through.
2. It is based on an excellent background knowledge of both Coptic language and the mechanics of language in general. You feel that you're in safe hands!
3. The quality is first rate. The printing and binding is extremely professional. a glossy dustjacket adds a touch of class. This is a book that would be right at home on the shelves of any major bookstore.
4. It will inspire many people to attempt learning Coptic who may otherwise have found the previous books too hard or too arabic or too disorganised and not user-friendly.
5. It will set a new standard in the presentation, quality and attractiveness of future books produced by our Church (let's hope).
